Crazy Weather

As is the case with the rest of the world, our weather has been crazy.  We live south of Cortez and generally only get a little snow here and there.  This year we have had a LOT of snow!  All over the reservation there was snow, and not just for a few days.  We have had snow for three months straight.  Almost all of the snow has stuck and accumulated to several feet.  This has forced us to cancel church a few times.  Then when the snow started melting we had to deal with mud.  I think I would rather have the snow and ice!  Mud is difficult on the reservation because there are very few paved or even gravel roads.  This has caused us to cancel services a few times.  I guess I am trying to say, Thank God spring is close!  Now that the weather is starting to clear up things are getting back to normal.  We even had 35 people in church last Wednesday.  Praise the Lord!

Sunday School Room

We are almost done with our children’s church/Sunday School room.  It has turned into a bigger project than I had anticipated.  Some of our men, young men, and a dear friend have really helped a lot!  The room is about 75% sound proof.  Our goal is to start working with youth much more than we are.  The young people are definitely more focused on the things of the Lord and more apt to come.  Reaching them, you stand more of a chance to reach parents and grandparents.  We still need to do some work on our church van before we can move forward.  The van needs new brakes and rotors, u joint, and tune up.   This is almost $400 worth of parts.  I can do the labor now that weather is clearing up.  Please keep this in your prayers.

Shea

Shea is a young man in our church who has been coming with his family since he was nine.  He is now 17, and has recently admitted that he is not saved.  God has really been working on him!  He has been down to the altar the last several times he has been in church and yet continues to say that he is not ready.  Please lift him up in your prayers.

Still Praying for Home

We still are praying that God would help us find a permanent place to live.  We have been missionaries in the 4-corners for 16 years and we feel God is continuing to lead in this direction.  We are currently renting a single wide trailer and with utilities over the winter we are paying at least $1,300.00 a month.  This is a struggle financially.  One of our dreams has been to buy land to live on as well as have camp on.  I don’t know if this is what God has in store but we are open to anything God has for us.  We just know that it will take more money than we have.  Please continue to pray with us about a home.

Creation Class

Creation class is continuing to grow and people seem to love it.  Please pray that this will be an open door to share the gospel in places and ways that we haven’t before.

Thank you all so much for faithfully praying, and supporting our family and ministry.  We couldn’t do it without you all.

Because of Jesus,

Jason Walters and family

P.S. I sent everyone a new prayer card and I misstated our sending churches’ address. It is P.O. box1454, Covington, La. 70434.  Please forgive me for this mistake.

GREETINGS FRIENDS AND PARTNERSHIP SUPPORTERS –

IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR – JESUS CHRIST

                                                                                      March 03, 2010

Another month without any salvations!  Pray for us!  Our church is growing spiritually and members are taking on more responsibility. We received funds for our parking lot and landscaping.  The Southern California Coast Baptist Missionary Association sent us $900, Macedonia Baptist Church of Cherokee, North Carolina sent $2,000, and Hubbard Chapel – W.M.A., Mineola, Texas contributed $50.  We also received $174.55 for our youth.

Two new families are attending faithfully since the first of the year and another coming back after several months.

Bro. Anthony Pennington was approved as an Associate Missionary/Church Planter!  What a blessing!  Bro. Anthony is teaching The Way of The Master Evangelism Class, Adult Sunday School Class, and preaching the last Sunday of the month. Ms. Mary is teaching a pre-school Sunday School class and plays the piano.

We observed The Lord’s Supper, I spoke at Native New Life Church in Albuquerque at their New Year revival, and spoke at Lake Ridge Baptist Church’s Missions Conference in Lubbock, Texas.  We were asked to minister to a family of our church whose mother was terminally ill.  Ms. Stella Begaye had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and now was preparing to go home and meet Him!

I had the wind taken out of my sails by being sick for 3-days.  Ms. Lulie is with our son, Merritt Jr., in North Carolina; he underwent surgery and is healing well.

People of Calvary Baptist Church, Laverne, California are coming to help us with a youth revival in April, so please pray for the Lord’s blessings and their safe travel.

The city of Rio Rancho required a grade and drainage plan before completion of our retaining/buffer wall, paving, and landscaping.  We need about $10,000 to complete the paving; however, we know that the Lord will provide!

Every accomplishment and improvement the Lord provides is a blessing.  We are enclosing a picture of our youth swing set, installed last month.

May the Lord bless you!

Bro. Merritt and Ms. Lulie

Update received September 8, 2009:

Dear Friends,

Well, the two weeks of classes for Central America are finished.  David Hellwig taught the first week Introduction to New Testament on the books of Acts through Revelation.  The second week I taught History and Philosophy of Missions.  Both classes had a good attendance.  An average of 12 students were enrolled for both classes.  Students from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Guatemala atended the classes.  Both classes were taught in Little Rock, AR via the Internet to San José, Costa Rica.

The first item on our agenda after the classes was to enroll Kevin at Central Baptist College in Conway, AR.  We left him there on August 16.  From there we left for Texas.  Amanda’s third child, Little Ricky, arrived on August 21, about ten days earlier than planned.  Priss is currently there helping out.

As many of you already know, Priss has another health problem.  A gastroenterologist in Tyler believes it to be achalasia.  She has had two tests done and one more are pending.  If they confirm his suspicions, then an appointment will be made with a surgeon in Dallas.

Yesterday I had a good visit with Eaves Tabernacle outside Pittsburg, TX, where Doyle Rust is pastor.  This little country church was bursting at the seams, with 84 in attendance for church.  That night I went to Antioch Baptist Church in Grice (outside of Gilmer, TX for you non-East Texans).  It was good to see friends there also.

If anyone would like for me to visit their church on a Wednesday night, I would be happy to do that.  All my Sundays are full except for the first Sunday of October.  Continue to keep us in your prayers.  I will be arranging for classes in 2010 in Central America and Mexico.  Pray that the schedule of the teachers and my plans can work together.

Also, keep me in your prayers as I work on analysing my field interviews from last month.  That will be the substance of my next chapter on my project for my D.Min.  I hope to finish this chapter by the end of August.

Blessings,

Prashant Prakash, India:
(Received 02/03/2010)

Dear Pastor, Church family and praying friends,

We bring greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ from India. We are all doing fine and continue to labor in His ministry.

The last couple of months have been very busy with Christmas and school programs. We all had a blessed time celebrating the birth of Christ. December 12 was our church Christmas program. We had a very special Baptist minister Pastor, Aroop Kumar come from Bangalore, to share God’s Word. This was a blessed time to reach out to many non- believers and to give them the gospel. Pastor Arrop took the time to speak to all the church planters and the school teachers and encouraged them to be more productive in the ministry. December 21 and 22 was the carol singing, followed by Christmas programs in the churches planted through this ministry in the villages. I had the opportunity to visit all our church planters and pastors during this Christmas time and to share the gospel, and surely this was a blessed time. The Christmas program continued all the way till the 30 of January.

We also celebrated our school Christmas program on December 23. My wife Golda and some teachers put in a lot of effort to set a skit that would bring the true meaning of the Incarnation of Christ to the people. It was so amazing to see more than 2300 people showed up to watch the program. Most of them were non-Christians. We also took the opportunity to share the gospel openly for the first time to such big crowd with out any problems. Truly this was the Lord’s doing to bring all these people to our campus and keeping us safe during this time. Many were touched and expressed their desire to know more about our faith. Please continue to pray for so many that need salvation through Christ Jesus. The school has been an amazing tool for sharing with many the truth that we all have tasted. The children enjoyed themselves; we had many enthusiastic participants. The name of Christ was lifted high, and He was glorified for the love He has shown to us from the cross.
See Christmas 2009 photos

January 14 was a national holiday for a Hindu festival. We took this opportunity to hold a one day youth camp. Three young men dedicated their lives to full time ministry. This was a time for all youth of our church to extol the Word of God, followed by lunch prepared by one of our church planters.

Update on the church building in Kelgi village: We could not have the building ready by Christmas as planned. The work is almost complete. The plastering of the walls and the flooring is complete. This week the window shutters and the doors will be fixed followed by the painting of the building. We are planning on dedicating the building in the first week of March with a three day meeting and outreach program. Please keep this in your prayers as we plan and prepare for this day.

One of our greatest needs at this time for the ministry is a vehicle. It has become very difficult for us to travel around to different areas. We have been renting Jeeps to travel around to villages which at time are not convenient and expensive. Some churches have already started contributing towards this project and have sent the funds to the BMA mission board. We thank you for the support and prayers. We are trying to raise US $22,000 towards this project. The other option is the vehicle can also be bought on a car loan from the bank and monthly installments can be paid. If a group of churches or individual supports can commit to support a part of the payment, for a committed period of time will repay the loan. The loan repayment plan can be anywhere between three to five years, depending on the amount borrowed. Please keep this matter in prayer and hope that this need will be met soon.

Once again we take this opportunity to thank you for your prayers and continued support towards missions. We also pray for you.

Activity Report June 2007
(Received 7/14/07)

Greetings from Sainte-Marie, Québec, Canada.

The month of June has been very exciting for us. We took possession of our new church building; we praise the Lord for that new place in Sainte-Marie.  It is a great testimony for the people in town to see that we are still alive to be ambassadors for the cause of Christ. Some people refuse the message of the gospel but praise the Lord for those who received the true gospel.

Many visitors came to the church meetings during June.We also had a visit from our new missions director, Bro. Larry Barker. He preached a very good message for us and we thank God for many unsaved people who listened very carefully to his predication about John:1:12.

Please pray for Sherley's health.

Please pray for salvation of: Stéphane Paradis, Karel, Denis Sylvain, Mario Vallée, André Ferland, Mike Burns.

Please pray for music ministry, soul winning visitation, Sunday School teaching, preaching ministry. The Lord's protection for groups who will  come to help us here in the field in Sainte-Marie.

We give all glory to the Lord for the privilege to be in full-time ministry. I thank God for the great opportunity to share the gospel with French-speaking people.

Michel Poirier, Quebec, Canada:

The Poiriers

Quebec, Canada

Update received December 3, 2009:

The Poiriers

Missionary to the French in Quebec Canada

During the past few months the Lord has blessed us with opportunities to witness, and to have Bible studies with people. We had some new visitors who asked me if it were possible to have someone to come and teach them the Bible in their village, I thought for a moment and said, “We can work on something. Let’s give it a time of prayer, and when you are ready let me know, and we will get together.” What a blessing! It sounds like the Macedonian call, found in Acts 16:9, which says: “Come over into Macedonia, and help us.”  We have other home studies on the go. In one home a half hour away from the church, two families gather on Wednesday nights for Bible study. Another is also a half hour in the other direction; the wife and the daughter love the study. The husband, who was 85 years old, went home to be with the Lord on November 21. It is a trying time for the family, and we are helping them with any need they might have. We have another study group the other direction, one hour and 40 minutes of drive time. All of these families love the Lord and pray that a church would open near their village.

We had three that raise a hand for baptism, we have new song books printed up and we need to order new leather cover Bibles for the people. Praise the Lord. We have a need of printing a gospel tract; it is a new design we just made to reach out for the lost. We have been waiting for the financing for about six months and still waiting but we don’t give up, because we know in time the Lord will provide.

The months of October and November were a testing time for my family and me. Ruth and I had to have two root canals each, and crowns for Ruth. We have seen the Lord working in wonderful ways as a couple of churches who had met the need for this unexpected medical attention. As for me, they are still working on my mouth (top front teeth); they have finished the two root canals and on December 14 they will put my bridge in place; I can hardly wait. I once again thank those who took care of this great need. You have been a great blessing to us.

Christmas is coming fast and we are praying that people will have an open heart for the things of God during this time of the year. With that in mind, we want to take this opportunity to proclaim Christ to them. We do so on a weekly basis, through literature. We invite many people to Christ through handouts and personal contacts, and we are starting to see a few more hearts open to the gospel as Christmas approaches. Amen!

I would like to take this time to pray that God will bless you and your church for a harvest of souls this Christmas, and a renewed vision for the coming new year. We are serving the King of Kings and He has said that we will reap if we faint not. Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Thank you for your support. You have been a blessing, and still are. We don’t know where we would be without your prayers and support during these trying months, and we pray that the Lord will reward you openly and abundantly for your faithfulness in serving Him.

Praying for you always, The Poiriers
